Whether at home, in school, or in the neighborhood, too many children are experiencing violence that can leave them psychologically scarred and may place them at greater risk for:
Developmental delays. |
Poor academic performance. |
Symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. |
A tendency toward violent behavior of their own. |
Family Services' trained children's therapists provide specialized treatment to children and teens experiencing trauma from:
Exposure to violence in the home or community. |
Direct physical abuse. |
Sexual abuse. |
Child endangerment such as living in a drug manufacturing or trafficking home. |
Serious neglect. |
Abduction. |
The goal of the Children's Counseling Center is to create a sense of safety for children and teens that will allow them to express their fears and concerns, gain confidence and self-esteem, strengthen their resiliency, and heal themselves from the challenges they may encounter.
The Children's Counseling Center therapists may also assist children who have issues other than violence or abuse-related trauma. These issues could include:
Dealing with divorce or re-marriage in the family. |
Adjustment to a new or challenging environment. |
Loss of significant people or attachments. |
Relationship and communication issues with parents and siblings. |
Our services may be covered by private insurance, fee for service, Victim's Assistance and/or other government grants if applicants qualify. Children in need of medical evaluation or medication will be referred to other providers for this aspect of treatment.
