A Message From Our Executive Director
It is a privilege to introduce myself as the new Executive Director of Family Services of Tulare County. I would like to express to each of you my enthusiasm about the opportunity to give back to the community where I grew up, as part of this fantastic organization.
Since being established in 1983, Family Services has continued to create innovative programs that address significant issues facing individuals and families in our community who are most vulnerable.
We are proud to have continuously operated our flagship program, Karen’s House – a 30-bed emergency domestic violence shelter for women and children. Today, we also operate the only Rape Crisis Center in Tulare County, providing support to more than 300 victims each year. We have brought parenting resources to families across the county in the home, at resource centers, and in our jails. We operate a supervised visitation center that allows parents and children a safe place to heal their relationships. And in the past four years, we have developed nearly 60 units of supportive housing for families and individuals with disabilities.
Family Services now serves more than 3,000 individuals through our comprehensive programs. We could not provide these critical services without the incredible contribution of our volunteers and the hundreds of businesses, faith-based organizations, and community groups that support our work.
We are thankful to our donors and funders for their charity and to our volunteers for their personal investment of time and talent. Our supporters make it possible for Family Services to continue to help individuals make choices that lead to health and healing.
Family Services is well poised to continue its mission and I humbly ask for your continued help and support as we go forward to help children, adults and families in Tulare County.
Caity Meader, M.A.
The mission of Family Services is to help children, adults, and families throughout Tulare County heal from violence and thrive in healthy relationships. Family Services is a nonprofit human services agency located in Tulare County, California, an agricultural county in the southern San Joaquin Valley about midway between Los Angeles and the Bay Area.
Family Services was founded by a group of concerned citizens in February of 1983 and opened a Battered Women’s shelter in July of 1983. To remain sustainable in a rural county, we have diversified and expanded our services from a domestic violence agency to a multi-service organization that also serves victims of sexual assault and child abuse as well as individuals and families dealing with crisis or emotional problems. Our agency’s continuum of services which includes: case management, individual, group, and family therapy, crisis intervention, group classes, emergency assistance and housing are provided at our offices and housing complexes in the cities of Visalia and Tulare. However, because we are a large rural County with limited transportation, we also provide services in the home or at schools, youth centers, clinics or Family Resource Centers in outlying areas of Tulare County. Annually, Family Services of Tulare County serves over 3,000 unique individuals through our various programs and services.
Family Services is a private non-profit human services agency serving children, adults, and families in Tulare County.
